Overview

Webstarts has nearly 130 templates from which to choose, including many specialty templates that you won’t find on other website builders. There are a good number of portfolio templates for creative professionals as well as a selection of templates for restaurants and other food and drink-related businesses, as well as a few medical related templates. If you’re looking for education or marketing related templates, you’re out of luck.Webstarts also boasts an easy-to-use editor that allows you to make extensive customizations to your site to fit your exact needs. In fact, the drag-and-drop style editor gives you the ability to place elements wherever you please without constraint. However, Webstarts does provide you with gentle warnings if, for example, you place an object too far to the side that will cause it to render improperly. These are by far the best features Webstarts has to offer.

Pricing runs the gamut from a relatively featureless free plan all the way to an e-commerce Business plan, which will set you back nearly $40. Yet despite its price, even the Business plan doesn’t have all the bells and whistles you’d expect for such a hefty monthly fee. But, all Webstarts users, regardless of the price plan they have chosen, have the option of exporting their site, which comes in handy if you want to host the site someplace else. And while support options vary depending on the pricing plan – free users only have access to email support while Business plan users have access to live chat and telephone support – there are many other support options like an extensive knowledge base that make solving common problems a relative breeze.

Of course, Webstarts has its problems. Likely the biggest issue is that none of its templates are natively mobile responsive. Sites must be made responsive in editing, and even then, this function is only reserved for the two most expensive plans. Another problem is an abundance of ugly, outdated templates that look more like free WordPress templates from several years ago. Email is also only available on the high-end Business plan, and even then, you only get five email addresses. Other features that should be included for free aren’t: blogging and image galleries aren’t available on some plans, nor are social media icons. Some effects and animations are available, as is the option to create password-protected pages, but these features are only available on certain plans as well.
