Overview

When signing up, SimpleSite asks you a few key questions to help identify the type of website that will best suit your needs. Once you do that, you go through a quick, multi-step process to select the essential features of your website, including a basic template (there are 15 from which to choose), color scheme, featured image, and a background, all of which can be changed later, should you choose. More options are available on paid plans, but overall, the template selection and level of customization is far less than what you will find with other website builders.

The free site is branded with www.yoursite.simplesite.com, but you can upgrade to an ad-free site with unique site designs, a custom domain name, and other features for $13.95/month or an e-commerce site for $28.95/month. But, even on the free plan, you get the option of having a small online store with up to 5 items with PayPal integration included for free. The e-commerce solutions offered by SimpleSite are by far one of the website builder’s best features. Also included for free on all plans is mobile responsiveness, so your site will look good no matter what size of screen site visitors view it on. To get email, you have to upgrade either to the Pro or E-Commerce plan.

There are some things that are lacking, however. You cannot download your site, and there are some types of templates that are unavailable, such as those for marketing, medical purposes, and portfolios. The support options leave a lot to be desired as well. There is no chat-based or phone-based support, leaving users to rely on the paltry online documentation or contacting SimpleSite via e-mail. With a reported turnaround time of two days, requests for support aren’t answered in a very timely manner either.

In spite of its shortcomings, SimpleSite does offer a good variety of features. You can add a blog, incorporate music and videos on your site, and interact with others via social media. Add a guestbook so your site visitors can leave you a note or a contact page so visitors can learn how to contact you. All these features are fairly basic, but like SimpleSite’s mantra, the point is to provide a service that gets you online fast, and SimpleSite does just that.
